Entry requirements
120 credits with at least 37.5 credits in mathematics, 37.5 credits in physics, Atmospheric Physics NV1 5 credit points,and Synoptic Meteorology and Weather Chart Analysis NV1 7.5 credits or equivalent.
Learning outcomes
After the course the student shall
- have gained a general knowledge about the atmospheric boundary layer.
- be able to physically deskribe the atmospheric boundary layer (stable/neutral/unstable).
- have a physical understanding of fluxes and how it can be described.
- understand how and why a flux may need to be parameterized.
- understand the role of the boundary layer in large scale weather.
Content
Basic turbulence theory. Physical laws for the surface layer. Measurements in the surface layer - methods and results. Vegetation resistance. Similarity theories and experimental data for the atmospheric boundary layer.
