Learning outcomes

In order to pass the course (grade 3) the student should

  • be able to give an account of important concepts in the area of clinical research;

  • understand the importance of correct planning and analysis of clinical studies from ethical as well as economical perspectives;

  • be able to use the most important types of clinical trial plans;

  • be able to use various methods for randomizing patients for different treatments;

  • know various methods for interim analysis of data during a clinical study, and important models and methods for statistical analysis of clinical data after the study;

  • be able to present results of a clinical study to others.

    Content

    Cross-over, factorial and other trial plans. Parametric and non-parametric methods for clinical studies. Analysis of covariance, repeated measurements, dimensioning. Handling of prognostic factors.

    Assessment

    Assignments and laboratory work with computers.
