Entry requirements
First-cycle programme of at least 120 credit points (180 credits) within a relevant field. After individual review also open for applicant with older professional qualification, however at least 135 credits, and with experience in the field.
Learning outcomes
The course intends to deepen the knowledge of educational and organisational theories and models appropriate for activities within geriatric care and to deepen the knowledge of evidence-based preventive and rehabilitating methods to retain/increase functional and activity capacity in the elderly.
On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- Define and explain central concepts in the educational and organisational theories and models that can be applied in change management
- Describe and explain methods/strategies to support health promoting behaviours in elderly individuals and groups
- Describe and explain evidence-based rehabilitating methods to increase functional and activity capacity of the elderly
- Describe theoretically tests and evaluation methods suited for older
SKILLS AND ABILITY
- Adapt theories and models to support health promoting behaviours and suggest applications in so called cases
- Evaluate preventive and rehabilitating measures for older on functional, activity and participation level
- Use strategies for treatment of patients with cognitive reductions to support activity and participation
EVALUATION ABILITY AND INDEPENDENCE
- Critically evaluate a scientific intervention study within the geriatric field based on defined criteria
- Compare and evaluate tests and evaluation instruments from a scientific perspective
- Compare and evaluate methods to promote physical activity
Content
Educational and organisational theories and models and its application within geriatric care. Theoretical and practical knowledge of evaluation instruments. Strategies for promoting health behaviour, Treatment of individuals with dementia. Training methods to retain/increase functional and activity capacity
Scientific review and evaluation of geriatric intervention research
Instruction
The teaching is given as lectures, seminars, group assignments and via learning management system (requires Internet). The student carries out study assignments alone or in collaboration with a study group between each course gatherings.
Assessment
Passed individual study assignments. Passed group assignments.
Students who have not passed the examination have a right to attend 4 additional examinations (i.e. 5 examinations in total). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee may admit additional examinations. Every time the student participates in an examination counts Submission of so called blank exam is counted as an examination. The student has the right to request a change of examiner after two failed examinations.
