Entry requirements
30 credit points in science, linguistics or analytical philosophy.
Aims
To connect views on structures that have
self-organising properties (like natural and
artificial life-forms)
from biology, computer science, physics and
mathematics. An academic discussion on the
philosophical and moral issues scientists face
in attempting to characterise and shape nature.
Content
The study of self similarity and (artificial) life.
Specific areas we hope to include are fractals,
chaos theory, biological processes, and
computer science.
Instruction
Summer course. Lectures, guest lectures,
computer demonstrations and laboratory work.
Assessment
Written assignments dealing with the text,
a software project, and
a final group presentation.
The software assignment requires no prior
programming experience.
