Entry requirements

The general rules laid down by the Curriculum Committee of the Faculty of Pharmacy apply.

Aims

Having completed the course, the student shall be able to assess and evaluate drug treatment independently in relation to the individual patient's condition and the specific properties of the drugs.

The course aims to give the student:

- a knowledge of the most common disorders and their treatment and an awareness of the place of drugs in medical care.

- practice in thinking independently and reaching decisions and in seeking, sorting, critically evaluating and communicating information.

Content

The course comprises common disorders, therapeutic traditions, choice of drugs and dosages, individual variability, side effects and interactions. Based on realistic patient cases in which the history, symptoms and laboratory values are given, the student shall be able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different treatment strategies.

Instruction

Problem-based learning is used as an educational tool. The course comprises group exercises, seminars, lectures, study visits and computerised laboratory sessions.

Assessment

Written examinations are held at the end of the course. Students are required to pass the written examination (examination code) and compulsory parts of the course (examination code). Repetition of compulsory parts of the course may be done in connection with the next course at the earliest and then only if there is a vacancy.
