Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to give a deeper knowledge of marketing to consumers as well as to industrial markets.

After participating in the course, the student will be able to:

- explain the main concepts of consumer behaviour

- explain the buying process in companies

- explain how distribution works in B2B markets

- analyse various marketing problems in B2B and B2C markets

- analyse and suggest solutions for marketing issues in B2B and B2C markets.

- present and discuss analyses and solutions for marketing problems.

- evaluate other students' analyses and solutions for marketing problems.

Content

The course provides a deeper perspective on how companies work with marketing. The starting point for the course is that both industrial and consumer marketing is an information and knowledge problem for both consumers and companies. We reach deeper through discussions about how companies handle marketing on B2B and B2C markets. We also discuss consumer behaviour from both an individual and a company perspective.

Instruction

The course is given in Swedish. The teaching is entirely web-based and is based on independent study. Information about different activities, such as the work required and the date for the submission of papers and other assignments, is available on the course's website. The course does not require any physical attendance. The communication between the participants and teachers occurs primarily via the website. This requires that the participants have access to a computer with Internet access and the appropriate equipment according to instructions from the institution

Assessment

The course examination consists of various parts such as written tests, assignments, the group work and computer-based tests. The final grade is determined based on an assessment of all the parts of the examination. More detailed information about how the assessment is made is provided in the course instruction. ECTS-grades are used as supplementary information. For those who have not passed all of the parts of the examination or those who are seeking a grade of Passed with distinction (VG), a final written exam will be arranged; a re-exam will not be offered. The grade Passed with distinction can only be obtained the same term in which the student is registered for the first time. Any supplemental parts of the examination (remaining assignments and supplements) must be turned in within two weeks after the end of the course. If this does not occur, the grade Failed (U) will be received for the relevant part of the examination. The entire course (all assignments included) must then be repeated, which will only be possible if space is available in any future course.

Uppsala University does not accept cheating and plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Disciplinary Committee of the University, which may issue a formal warning to the student or expel the student from the university for six months.

Note: Only successfully completed courses will be credited towards a Swedish degree.
