Aims

This course will provide basic theoretical and practical knowledge of the female reproductive system and its anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, and of the aetiology, pathology, clinical signs and treatment of diseases of the female genital tract. Special importance will be attached to practical training and the diagnosis, treatment and care of diseases or disorders that might be encountered by the general practitioner or physicians in other disciplines.

Content

The course comprises the following main areas:

Female genital anatomy

Reproductive endocrinology

Puberty, sexual maturity, menopause

Pregnancy, labour, puerperium

Antenatal care

General gynaecology

Gynaecological urology

Infertility

Family planning and abortion

Sexology

Violence against women

The education in diagnosis and treatment of tumours in the female genital tract is partly given at the Department of Gynaecological Oncology.

Instruction

The course will cover eight weeks in the 11th term. The first introductory week is given in collaboration with the course in paediatrics. The tuition is given in the form of lectures, demonstrations and seminars.

Practical education in wards, out-patient departments, operating theatres, the labour ward, the neo natal ward, the family planning unit and antenatal care units will proceed in parallel with the rest of the education.

Assessment

In order to successfully complete the course the student must have participated satisfactorily in the above-mentioned compulsory duties. Assessment will be made by a written examination, together with the paediatric course.
