This course corresponds to the earlier 3FK014 course Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry. 1.5 credits (hp) correspond to 1 credit point (p) according to earlier study regulation.
Entry requirements
For students within the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Programme: taken the earlier courses within the programme. For single subject course students: General Pharmaceutical Chemistry 7.5 credits or the equivalent.
Content
During the course the most important classes of organic compounds, and their properties, are discussed. Further, reaction mechanisms including applications of thermodynamics, kinetics, basic molecular orbital theory, stereochemistry and spectroscopy are studied, as well as the chemical nomenclature of organic compounds. The laboratory part comprises organic synthesis, organic reaction theory and structure identification of organic-chemical compounds. The latter part is based completely on IR-spectroscopy.
Instruction
The teaching is given as lectures, seminars, demonstrations and laboratory exercises. Laboratory exercises are presented orally and written. Laboratory exercises may be held in the evenings.
