Learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
Give an account of different actors' views on sustainable development in Sweden, and critically scrutinise their concepts of sustainable development;
Describe the Swedish discourse on Sustainable Development, its origin, and evolvement.
Give an historic account of Swedish work and initiatives for sustainable development at local, regional, and international level;
Critically reflect on and evaluate Swedish actors' visions, solutions and strategies for a sustainable society and future;
Critically reflect on different indicators and methods which are used to measure development and sustainability.
Content
The course aims at analyse and evaluate different dimensions and contrasting perspectives on sustainable development in Sweden. It highlights both concrete efforts to achieve sustainable development and scientific controversies. In order to achieve an in depth understanding of sustainable development the course gives an historic account of the Swedish development discourse, and its application by different Swedish actors. The course also aims at encourage critical discussions on sustainability.
Instruction
The course is taught in English. It consists of lectures, seminars, workshops, and a final project assignment. All lectures are given by guest lecturers from different academic backgrounds and sectors of the society. All sessions are scheduled in the evening time.
Assessment
Course examination includes written and oral assignments. Throughout the course students prepare for and actively participate in interactive seminars/workshops (3 ECTS). The course is concluded by final projects (4.5 ECTS). Examination includes both individual and team-work elements. The course consists of obligatory parts.
