Learning outcomes

The purpose of the course is to repeat and supplement the high school course in Mathematics and thereby prepare for further academic studies in Mathematics, Science and Technology. In order to pass the course (grade 3) the student should

  • know the definition of the derivative and be able to interpret it in different settings, know a number of rules for derivatives as well as be able to use the derivative to solve max-min problems;
  • be able to describe the definition of integrals intuitively and to calculate simple integrals with the help of substitutions and partial integration;
  • be able to discuss mathematics in a correct way.

Content

Derivatives: definition and rules, max-min problems. Integrals: definition, substitution of variables, partial integration. Complex numbers: counting with complex numbers, the polar form, powers and roots, complex polynomial.

Instruction

The course is taught via the Internet in cooperation with the Swedish Academic Mathematical Portal: www.math.se.

Assessment

The course is continuously examined via the Internet by tests.

Other regulations

The course may not be included in exam together with the Basic Course in Mathematics, Mathematics and Statistics for Biologists, Single Variable Calculus, and Algebra and Vector Geometry.
