Aims
This course prepares the student for subsequent preclinical and clinical education by providing fundamental and integrative knowledge about physiological and biophysical processes and the ways in which they may be influenced pharmacologically, and by integrating previously acquired knowledge in this context. Further, medical technology is taught.
Content
The main topics are:
Pharmacokinetics
Pharmacology of the nervous system, analgesics, general and local anaesthesia, drug addiction
Pharmacology of inflammation
Biophysics, physiology and pharmacology of the circulatory system
Radiation biophysics and medical imaging
Physiology and pharmacology of the respiratory system
Physiology and pharmacology of the kidneys and fluid balance
Endocrinology: physiology and pharmacology
Physiology and pharmacology of the digestive system and energy metabolism
Chemotherapy
Harmful effects of drugs
Instruction
The course includes lectures, group tutorials, laboratory teaching and demonstrations.
Assessment
To pass the final examination, the course must have been completed, i.e. all laboratory work and group work must have been done satisfactorily and the tests must have been passed. The assessment consists of two written tests during the course and one final written examination.
