Entry requirements

Under graduation education in physiotherapy equalling 120 points of which 60 points in physiotherapy or undergraduate education in physiotherapy equalling 100 points and education in physiotherapy at the C level 20 points or equivalent.

Aims

The course is intended to offer students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of research methodology and give students: -Skills in planning a research project within physiotherapy, -Conducting data collection, -Process and analyse collected data, -Written reporting of obtained results, -Critical review of others' projects.

Content

I In depth scientific methodology (5 points): -Scientific philosophy, * Different scientific approaches, -Research ethics, -Research designers, - Advanced knowledge of data collection methods concerning both quantitative and qualitative data, * Methods for analysis and data processing of both quantitative and qualitative data, II In depth study of physiotherapy theory (5 points), -The national and international development of physiotherapy, -Theories, model and applications within physiotherapy, -Analysis of scientific physiotherapeutic work from a scientific theoretical and methodological perspective, including design choices, -Current physiotherapy research.

Instruction

The course is offered as a distance course at half-speed during 1 term with about 8 whole day meetings at the place of study. Tuition is in the form of lectures, seminars and group work.

Assessment

-Written individual test in research methodology. -Take-home test in statistics. -Written responses to assigned questions for 4 seminars. -Written individual analysis assignments of a physiotherapy doctoral thesis.
