Content

This is a basic course in business studies which aims to give the students a broad introduction to the subject and its curriculum. The course is based around two main parts; marketing and organisation.

Within marketing, the course covers marketing for consumer, service, and industrial markets. Within consumer marketing, consumer, competition and environmental analysis as well as the companies' strategic and tactical marketing planning are covered. Within service marketing, the marketing problems which are related to the characteristics of services are discussed, and within industrial marketing, the relationship oriented perspective is contrasted with a transaction oriented perspective. The second part of the course, organisation, begins with discussions about different degrees of organisational structure and the demarcation and liability issues which exists built-in with that issue. Then, fundamental issues are dealt with such as the division and coordination of work and the management problems which arise when organisations grow. Various types of organisations are described and discussed.

Assessment

Course examination includes written tests as well as written and oral assignments. Examination includes both individual and team work elements.
