Aims
This course is intended to give the students solid insights into Peer-to-Peer computing and how it can be used as a foundadtion to tie computers together on a global level in order to give service to users wherever they are.
Content
The course introduces Peer-to-Peer computing both in terms of what it is and where it came from. Basic concepts from computer network and distributed systems are covered. Different versions of Peer-to-Peer systems are covered, e.g. Napster, Gnutella and Kazaa. General aspects of Peer-to-Peer computing are examined, e.g. scalability, security, fault tolerance and quality of service. Some applications are disussed, e.g. file sharing and more general business systems. Related areas, such as Grid computing and ad hoc networks are introduced.

Lectures, seminars,and assignments.
Assessment
Written exam. Passed laboratory course and approved compulsory assignments are also required.
