Learning outcomes

This course focuses on the contents of public policy in the areas of economic and social policy. Students will analyse how different policy proposals aim to resolve social and economic problems and how competing policy alternatives are evaluated both in terms of political legitimacy, administrative feasibility, social justice, and economic efficiency. Students will be exposed to examples in the areas of taxation, pension reform, social welfare, labour markets and policies aiming to promote the economy and business environment. The students will deepen their understanding of how policies need adjustment in response to changing social and economic conditions.

Content

(1) Economic policy analysis; (2) Social policy analysis; (3) Distributional outcomes of public policy; (4) Policy reforms and adjustments. All in a comparative perspective.

Instruction

Teaching consists of lectures and seminars.
