Entry requirements

A complete Biomedical Laboratory Sciences Study Programme or 150 credits-credits from related courses of the Medicine, Biology or Biomedicine Study Programmes, including 15 credits in neurobiology.

Learning outcomes

The undergraduate thesis project should provide the student with knowledge of how to seek scientific facts and how to plan, carry out and present scientific work as well as theoretical and practical specialisation within a biomedical subject area.

Upon completion of the course the student is expected to:

- be able to search scientific literature

- be able to summarise scientific literature

- show basic knowledge on planning and performance of a scientific work

- show basic knowledge on analysis of scientific data

- be able to discuss scientific data

- be able to present scientific data and conclusions in written and oral form

Content

The project includes search, studies and summary of scientific literature, practical work in close relation to ongoing neurobiological research, compilation and critical analysis of the results, and oral and written presentation. Professional training.

Instruction

The studies take place under individual supervision and include literature studies, seminar exercises and practical work. Professional training. The course may be divided into parts.

Assessment

The project should be presented as a seminar in front of experts in the subject. The project should also be presented as a written scientific report, which will be the basis for the examination. To pass the course, the student should have fulfiled all compulsory requirements and passed the final examination.

Other regulations

Experimental work with laboratory animals requires authorisation equivalent to that stipulated in Swedish regulations.
