General provisions

The course is an optional module within the Master's Programme in humanities, with specialisation in musicology. The student is expected to find a suitable internship workplace and supervisor, which are to be agreed and acknowledged by the director of graduate studies before the internship takes place.

Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide opportunities for the student to apply and develop knowledge acquired within the Master programme in a professional context relavant to the discipline.

Upon completion of the course the student is expected to:

* be able to explain the aims, organisation, activity and duties of the internship workplace, as well as its organisational place in society

* demonstrate acquired knowledge about, and to reasonable extent: application of, the duties and routines of the workplace

* demonstrate a developed ability to receive supervision and co-operate with the internship supervisor and other staff at the workplace

* demonstrate the ability to reflect on the experience gained at the internship workplace, in relation to the theoretical elements of the Master programme and the literature linked to the course

Content

The course consists of an active and academically reflexive internship with relevance for the programme. Examples of suitable internship workplaces include: culture administration in the public sector, cultural institutions, libraries, archives, museums, publishing houses, information departments in the public sector or institutions in the media sector.

Instruction

Frequent and supervision meetings at the internship workplace, as planned beforehand. Compulsory attendance according to the normal working hours at the internship workplace.

Assessment

After the completion of the internship, the student shall submit a written report and evaluation of the internship to the examiner of the course. A report is received from the internship supervisor, and together with the student report, this provides the basis for examination.
