Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree equivalent to a Swedish degree of at least 180 credits (i.e. three years of full-time studies) with at least 90 credits in business studies including an independently written academic work of at least 15 credits. Proficiency in English.

Learning outcomes
The purpose of this course is to give students both broad and deep knowledge about areas covering vital aspects of a bank relating to funding, accounting and control. The course will shed light on the financial sector, its regulations, and especially give insight to the bank as an organisation.
After successful completion of the course the student will be able to understand:
- the business environment of banks
- historical development of the banking industry
- banking from a network perspective
- the regulations that affect banks and how they have developed
- basic financial accounting issues in a bank
- strategic issues in banking
- critical factors of a management control system of a bank
- in sum: to understand the basic conditions of a bank and analyse it from different perspectives
Content
The course provides both a broad perspective on the bank – connecting the environment of the bank with how its strategies and management control systems are affected by regulations such as financial accounting standard setting.
The course is designed in an original way with an intense group work and coaching from teachers along the course. Parallel to this, each student develops his or her special interest within one “expert area” which is finalised with an individually written term paper focusing on one chosen topic relating to banking. Expert areas that can be chosen are

- Financial accounting
- Strategy
- Management control
Instruction
The language of instruction is English. The in-class teaching consists of lectures, seminars, and tutoring.
Assessment
Grades will be given in accordance with the Swedish grading system. The following grades will be used: VG (pass with distinction), G (pass), and U (fail).
The students will get one single grade, equivalent to 7.5 credits. Grading criteria will be presented in the study guide provided at the start of the course.
In addition, any remaining assignments or supplements must be completed and handed in at least within two weeks after the end of the course otherwise the course (all assignments included) has to be redone the following semester, provided there is space in the course.
Uppsala University takes cheating and plagiarism seriously, and disciplinary action will be taken against any student suspected of being involved in any sort of cheating and/or plagiarism. The disciplinary action takes the form of warnings and limited suspensions.
NOTE: Only completed courses can count toward a degree.
