Learning outcomes

The purpose of this course is to give an understanding of theory and practice behind investments and financing decisions in an international company.

After successful completion of the course the student will understand differences between theories and practices of an international company's decisions within:

  • foreign investments and their implementation with political and cultural differences
  • investment financing
  • capital structure

Content

The course focus is on analysis and examination of investment and financing decisions by a CFO function in an international company. To provide an understanding of the international context these decisions are analysed in contrast to similar decisions in the national environment. The environmental considerations included cover political, cultural and governance issues.

In order to reach a broader perspective, students will also compare theories with how an international company manages these decisions in practice.

Instruction

The language of instruction is English. The in-class teaching consists of lectures, seminars, and tutoring.

Assessment

Grades will be given in accordance with the Swedish grading system. The following grades will be used: VG (pass with distinction), G (pass), and U (fail).

The students will get one single grade, equivalent to 7.5 credits. Grading criteria will be presented in the study guide provided at the start of the course.

In addition, any remaining assignments or supplements must be completed and handed in at least within two weeks after the end of the course otherwise the course (all assignments included) has to be redone the following semester, provided there is space in the course.
