General provisions
The course is offered in term 5 (3 credits) and term 6 (12 credits) in the Nursing programme.
The aim of the degree project is that the student from a scientific approach and working method will develop and demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to be able to work independently with evidence-based health care/nursing and to initiate and participate in development work.
Entry requirements
Passed courses from the terms 1, 2 and 3 and 15 credits from term 4, including passed clinical placement (total 105 credits). In addition the student must have followed the course Scientific methodology 4.5 credits.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
After completion of the degree project the student will be able to
- apply the research process in its various parts
- demonstrate advanced knowledge of the scientific method
- demonstrate advanced knowledge regarding evidence-based health care/nursing
Skills and ability
After completion of the degree project, the student will independently be able to
- analyse and critically review relevant scientific literature and information and use the recommended reference management
- identify and formulate a nursing problem as a basis for a scientific work
- plan and conduct a scientific work and apply research ethical principles
- analyse research results based on its original aim and research questions
- present and discuss a scientific work
- review and discuss critically a scientific work
- discuss new research results and suggest how these can be implemented in health care
- initiate and participate in development works
Judgement and approach
After completion of the degree project, the student will be able to
- discuss the relation between scientific knowledge and proven experience
- assess own and others' degree projects on relevant scientific and ethical aspects
- evaluate own research results in relation to other relevant health care-/nursing research
- reflect critically on routines and methods in health care/nursing care
- make research ethical considerations
Content
In the degree project is included:
- preparation of a project plan
- implementation of project work and compilation/documentation of a scientific report based on passed project plan
- to defend and discuss own work and review and discuss critically another student's scientific work at a seminar
- presentation of the scientific work in poster or oral seminar
Instruction
WORKING METHOD
The degree project is an individual assignment and is carried out in a group of two or independently with supervision support. It should appear what each of the students have contributed with during the implementation of the work.
Assessment
To pass the degree project the examiner requires passed project plan, passed scientific report and implementation of the scientific work, passed reviewing another student's degree project and passed poster or oral presentation of the scientific work.
Other regulations
A complete, unbound and single sided copy of the approved thesis must be submitted to the course administrator for archiving. You should also register your essay in the Digital Scientific Archive (DIVA), either abstract/summary or the full essay. These two things must be done before registration of the course can be done.
