General provisions

The course is included in the following degree programme:

• Server side web programming, 120 credits. Be given also as a freestanding course.

Entry requirements

Software Engineering 30 credits of which 15 credits in object-oriented programming and databases 7.5 credits or the equivalent

Learning outcomes

Regarding knowledge and understanding the student is expected to be able to on completion of the course

• Account for basic concepts in C#

• Describe the principles of data access via LINQ

• Be familiar with the concept usability and how it can be measured. Give example of and explain pattern for design of graphical interface for different purposes.

Regarding skills and ability the student is expected to be able to on completion of the course:

• Design applications with data access via LINQ

• Apply pattern for interface design

• Implement a graphical user interface in Windows

Regarding judgement and approach the student is expected to be able to on completion of the course:

• Evaluate usability of an interactive system

Content

The course deals with basic constructs in the programming language C#: Data types, statements, expressions, conditional statements, methods and references. Furthermore, the course brings up exception handling, file management and data access via LINQ. Finally, pattern for user interface is brought up, e g how contents should be organised as well as design of form and implementation of dialogues in Windows.

Component 1: C#, 4.5 credits The component brings up basic C# as well as object oriented programming, exception handling, file management and parts of C#'s class library. Further the course deals with data access via LINQ and implementation of dialogues in Windows.

Component 2: Design of user interface, 3 credits This component deals with what makes an interactive system useful for a certain target group, design pattern for user interface: organisation of content, navigation, design of forms and its content as well as displaying complex data.

Instruction

The course is given in the form of lectures and exercises.

Assessment

Component 1: C#, 4.5 credits. Examined through written exam. Component 2: Design of user interface, 3 credits. Examined through a project that is presented both orally and in writing. For the grade Pass in the whole course, it is required that all components are passed. To pass with distinction is required furthermore passed with distinction in both components.
