Entry requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or Social Sciences. Introduction to Wind Power, 5 credits, Spatial Planning for Wind Energy Development, 5 credits, Management of Wind Farm Development, 5 credits  and Advanced Energy Estimations, 5 credits.

Learning outcomes

After having passed the course the student should be able to:

  • apply clean energy project analysis software for a particular wind farm
  • optimise a wind farm for best energy output based on wind energy estimations and simulations
  • assess aspects related to site options
  • evaluate wind projects in a number of energy, economic, environmental, societal and technological criteria based on previous knowledge
  • compare a number of competing wind power projects and decide the optimum wind power project for a given site

Content

Optimisation of wind farms based on technical, economical, environmental and social aspects will be studied. These aspects of a wind farm project will also include consideration of infrastructure such as grid and roads. Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods will be introduced as an appropriate operational tool in wind farm site optimisation and will be applied in a particular project.

Instruction

The course includes lectures, seminars and group work. Attendance is compulsory at most scheduled events.

Assessment

Written project report, 5 credits.
