General provisions

The course is included in the Master's Programme in Religion in Peace and Conflict.

Entry requirements

Specific entry requirements: Bachelor's degree where the main field of study consists of at least 90 credits in Theology, History, Philosophy, Linguistics, Educational Science, Social Science or the equivalent. The main field of study should include an individual assignment corresponding to at least 15 credits.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to:

• plan and define a field study;
• carry out a field study;
• discuss methods and ethical considerations in relation to the field study;
• present the field study in the form of text, a Powerpoint presentation or an exhibition.

Content

During a period of five weeks, the student should plan, carry out and present a field study related to religious and ethical peace and justice movements. As part of the course, the students will produce their own source material through interviews and participatory observation. The course prepares students for a longer essay within the Master's programme and trains them in interview techniques and field observation. The student is also expected to reflect on the ethical aspects of his/her own work during the course.

Instruction

The course is a distance-learning course. Instructions takes the form of individual supervision. An Internet connect computer is essential.

Assessment

Course assessment is based on the field study.

Other regulations

Please note that the stated teaching methods may be replaced by self-studies if there is a very low number of students.

Transitional provisions

Students that reading this course according to older course syllabus has possibility to examine course according to the course syllabus within two years after course date. If there are special reasons, such retake can take place also later. Normally, teaching according to older course syllabus is not given.
