General provisions
Correspond to the earlier course 3FK955 or 3FK960, Degree project in organic pharmaceutical chemistry.
The degree project can be carried out within or outside the university or as a collaborative project. The subject should be established by the examiner at the Faculty of Pharmacy after having consulted the student and supervisor. Before the course introduction, choices of supervisors and the planning of the work should be accepted at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The student should be registered at the Faculty of Pharmacy. In addition to the compulsory written and oral presentation of the degree project project can also be presented in a popular scientific manner through participation with a poster or a talk in a symposium that is organised at the end of the term.
Entry requirements
For students in the pharmacy programme: At least 180 credits within the pharmacy program, including passed courses in organic chemistry with a focus on medicinal chemistry and drug synthesis. Furthermore, attendance at all earlier courses within the pharmacy programme is required. For single subject course: 180 credits of which at least 90 credits in pharmaceutical chemistry, including at least 15 credits at level C, or equivalent is required. Knowledge in Swedish and English equivalent what to that required for basic entry into Swedish higher education.
Learning outcomes
For a degree project the student should be able to independently solve a formulated problem by working through an experimental design developed jointly by the student and the supervisor.
On completion of the course the student should be able to present the scientific work including the achieved results in both oral and written form.
The student should after the completed project work be able to search, critically evaluate and assess information and knowledge at the scientific level and have the ability to independently solve problems.
The student should understand current scientific issues within the subject area of the project and have a scientific attitude to these issues.
Content
The course is comprised of an individual scientific project that is guided by a supervisor in close connection with ongoing research projects. During the work the student will develop a deep understanding of scientific theory and research methodology.
Under the degree project, the student will have the opportunity to apply knowledge that has been acquired under earlier studies The work should highlight the close connection between the undergraduate program, research and development work and connect to the future work and methods that are used in the area.
Instruction
Teaching is given in the form of individual supervision, literature studies and seminars.
Compulsory parts of the course:
Written presentation of the degree project and oral presentation of the work by participation in a general seminar announced by the department and a popular scientific presentation of the project work in the form of e.g. a poster or a talk.
Assessment
The degree project is presented orally before an audience and written in a report that has the form of a scientific essay. A passing grade requires passed oral presentation and passed written report and participation in all other compulsory parts (examination code).
