General provisions
The course is given as compulsory course in the Physician programme.
Entry requirements
For admission to a new term, passed compulsory components from earlier semesters are required apart from three from nearest previous semester as well as that all examinations except a from nearest previous semester is passed. The education follows a set course of studies, which implies that the courses should be taken in an established order.
Learning outcomes
The course is located to clinical utbildningsavdelningar, KUA, i.e. special units at slutenvårdsavdelningar where students on läkar, sjuksköterske and fysioterapeutprogrammen interact in interprofessionella team under the guidance of both professionsspecifika supervisor and so-called KUA-handledare. In interprofessionellt learning, development of the ability to communication and reflection is centrally. The course intends to that the student should strengthen his work specific skills in parallel with to achieve an increased understanding and respect for the other professions' responsibility and domains.
Aim for course: On completion of the course, students should be able to
- based on the own profession relate to and interact with other professions in health care with safe and efficient person-oriented care and improved health as aim
- analyse and reflect on how cooperation between different professions contributes to safe and efficient person-oriented care and improved health
- in collaboration with other hälso and health care personnel make decision about basic diagnostics and treatment and communicate these to teammedlemmar patients and family
Content
The course consists of two weeks of clinical duty in team with students from other health sciences programmes on some of the clinical utbildningsavdelningarna. The students are divided into three vårdlag and follow the timetable of the nurses. In the interprofessionella the teamwork train the student his clinical skills with the aim to achieve an increased independence in common tasks in a ward for medically stable patients. Here is included to together with the team plan and distribute the work of today with medical care, nursing and rehabilitation. Collection of information from patient, family and medical record and the team constitute basis for decision about diagnostics and treatment which takes place in collaboration with the patient. Further, the student around the diagnostic process and the decision making reflects and trains on to identify his need of additional knowledge and skills. To be developed in interprofessionell communication around the patient's need give an increased understanding and respect for one another's professions and domains. Structured training to lead round; informationssamtal and advice about prevention to patient and family; and to participate in nursing care planning actively is example of component to train clear communication with patient, teammedlemmar and municipal care and omsorgspersonal. In the interprofessionella the learning reflect the students together about his cooperation with a focus on the patient's need from a holistic perspective. It is the student's responsibility to utilise all occasions to give and receive feedback.
Instruction
On KUA, interprofessionellt learning which implies training of the professional role in collaboration with other students and by means of a reflecting attitude is carried out. Supervision of physician and KUA-handledare take place both individually and together with studentteamet. All staff on KUA has gone through special supervisor education and has also continuous own supervision. The aim is to promote an advanced knowledge and new ways to think. The students learn about, of and with one another when they work together in team. In parallel, the physician's role in common clinical situations is trained. The types of instruction include interprofessionellt teamwork, nursing care planning, rounds, documentation and reflection.
Assessment
To pass the course, the student should have been attending and participated actively in the teamwork during the whole placing. Clinical skills are examined through supervising physician at the sit-in. Further, approved participation in the final case seminar that contains is required for the course relevant issues and where students from all vårdlag participate. Students who are failed on these have a right to undergo renewed examinations and participations in the seminar further 4 times (= in total 5 times). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee can admit additional occasions. Prematurely interrupted clinical placement: A student may fail and be forced to interrupt the clinical placement prematurely if there is a noticeable risk that the student due to incompetence may injure another individual or valuable property if he or she continues the clinical placement. An individual plan should be decided for the student and be given to him or her in writing. This plan, to be decided by the programme committee, must state the knowledge and skill shortages at hand, the support the student may receive from the department and also state how and when the assessment will take place. A student is entitled to a maximum of two control occasions, however no more than once a year. The student may not participate in the clinical placement again, until the programme committee has checked and accepted the required knowledge and skills of the student. Decisions on the individual study plan may be delegated by the programme committee to a student welfare committee or equivalent with student representation.
