General provisions
Substitutes earlier course 3FN233 or 3FN005, Degree Project in Pharmacognosy.
The degree project can be carried out within or outside the university or as a collaborative project . The subject should be established by the examiner at the Faculty of Pharmacy after having consulted the student and the supervisor.
Before the start of the course, choice of supervisors and the planning of the work should be approved by the examiner at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
The student should be registered at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
In addition to the compulsory written and oral presentation of the degree project it should also be presented in a popular science manner through participation with a poster or a talk in a symposium that is organised at the end of the semeste
Entry requirements
For students in the Pharmacy programme, it is required that the student should have achieved at least 180 credits within the programme including passed courses in Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, and have followed all earlier courses in the programme.
For the freestanding course, 180 credits are required of which at least 90 credits (including at least 15 credits at second cycle) in the area of pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, pharmaceutical chemistry or the equivalent. Courses of at least 7.5 credits at second cycle should be within the subject of pharmacognosy or the equivalent. Knowledge in Swedish and/or English equivalent to that required for basic level entry into Swedish higher education.
Learning outcomes
The student should show knowledge about current research and development within the project's subject area and knowledge about the implication of a scientific approach.
The student should show good knowledge about methods within the subject area of the project.
The student should after discussion with the supervisor be able to formulate an objective and independently, and within a given time frame, be able to plan and carry out the project.
The student should be able to search, critically evaluate and analyse information and integrate and compile this at a scientific level.
The student should be able to present his work both orally and written, in good Swedish or English.
The student should be able to discuss results and conclusions, also in relation to scientific research within the pharmaceutical field.
The student should show ability to identify the need of additional research within the subject area.
Content
The course is comprised of an individual scientific project that is guided by a supervisor in close connection with ongoing research projects. During the work the student will develop a deeper understanding of scientific theory and research methodology.
During the degree project, the student will have the opportunity to apply knowledge that has been acquired in earlier studies. The work should highlight the relationships that prevail between first-cycle programmes, research and development work and connect to future professional work and to methods that are used in the subject area.
Instruction
Teaching is performed by individual supervision and through literature studies.
Compulsory parts of the course: Course start, written presentation of the degree project as well as oral presentation of the work through participation in a general seminar announced by the department as well as a popular compilation of the project work in the form of e g a poster or a talk in the symposium that is organised in the end of the semester.
Assessment
The degree project is presented orally and written in a report that has the form of a scientific essay, including a popular compilation. A passing grade requires passed oral presentation including opposing on another student's project (1,5 credits), participation in the student symposium (1,5 credits), passed written report and participation in all other compulsory parts.
