Learning outcomes

The course builds on the discovery of new business opportunities to let you work on your own business idea or on a business idea supplied by an entrepreneur or innovator in the nearby region. The course includes the completion of a full-fledged business plan for that business idea. Depending on the nature of the business opportunity, you may be asked to work individually or in a group of two or more course participants.

The course allows you to:

- apply and convert theoretical and conceptual knowledge about the discovery of new business opportunities into practical entrepreneurship

- identify and deal with the challenges associated with evaluating, describing and presenting new business opportunities

- develop your skills in writing effective business plans.

Content

Within the framework of the course, you will go through a number of sequential steps and seminars/workshops, which towards the end of the course allow you to put together and present a full-fledged business plan.

Instruction

Teaching takes the form of seminars/workshops and may include written hand-ins as well as presentations that reflect progress throughout the different stages of the development of the business plan. All workshop and mentoring activities end after conclusion of the course. The course is taught in English.

Assessment

The student will get one single grade, equivalent to 7.5 credits.

Examination takes the form of a written assignment. Grading criteria are presented in the study guide that applies to the course section. The following grades will be used: pass with distinction (VG), pass (G), and fail (U). Examinations handed in late will not be assessed except under special circumstances. Any remaining supplemental work must be completed and handed in by the deadline specified in the study guide. Otherwise the entire course (all examinations included) must be retaken during subsequent course sections, pending availability of a place in the course.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.

Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.

NOTE: Only completed courses can count toward a degree.
