The course is part of the Euroculture Master's programme.

Entry requirements

This course is only available to exchange students within the Euroculture Master's programme who have successfully completed at least 20 credits in the programme’s first semester. 

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course students will be able to:

• ​ present, discuss and analyse main issues and important themes of research in the field addressed by the seminar;.
• relate to and describe the field in a reflexive manner;
• compare different methodological and theoretical approaches within the field;
• Show a thorough knowledge and understanding of theoretical and methodological approaches, in particular comparativism and constructivism, which allow for independent research in the academic field involved;
• show experienced knowledge and understanding of different regional and national perceptions of the European integration process from a cultural-social perspective, including awareness of the push and pull factors in the process of European identity formation and in relation to third countries;
• show a high level of sensitivity based on knowledge and insight regarding cultural-social differences and comparabilities at group, local, regional, national, European and global level.

Content

The course will present the most important aspects of the field and will introduce the students to the main issues and problems of the research in the field.

Instruction

Teaching will be in English.The teaching on this campus course includes both lectures and seminars. Attendance at seminars and at least 75% of lectures is compulsory. Students who miss seminars must compensate for this absence. In general, students who miss more than 25% of lectures must also compensate. However, students who are absent for substantially more than 25% of lectures must instead take part in lectures the next time the course is provided. Participation in all lectures is highly encouraged since the lectures facilitate reading and analysis of the course literature.

Assessment

Examination takes place through active participation in the taught sessions, written papers and exams. The course will be graded with the grades Väl godkänd (Pass with distinction), Godkänd (Pass), or Underkänd (Fail)

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University’s disability coordinator.

Transitional provisions

Students retain the right to be examined on the course according to this syllabus for 3 semesters after their course instance has ended. Normally, instruction will be given according to the latest version of the course syllabus only.
