General provisions

The course corresponds to Degree projects in drug development 3FK965 and 3FK032.

The degree project can be carried out within or outside the university or as a collaborative project. The subject should be established by the examiner at the Faculty of Pharmacy after having consulted the student and supervisor. Before the course introduction, choices of supervisors and the planning of the work should be accepted by the examiner at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The student should be registered at the Faculty of Pharmacy.

In addition to the compulsory written and oral presentation of the degree project it should also be presented in a popular science manner through participation with a poster or a talk in a symposium that is organised at the end of the semester.

Entry requirements

For students within the programme in Drug discovery and development: At least 22.5 credits within the Drug discovery and development programme. Passed courses in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutics and Medicinal Chemistry should be demonstrated. Specific prerequisites are established by the examiner by considering the specialisation of the project. Knowledge in Swedish and English equivalent to that required for basic entry into Swedish higher education.

Learning outcomes

For a degree project the student should be able to independently solve a formulated problem by working through an experimental design developed jointly by the student and the supervisor. On completion of the course the student should be able to present the scientific work including the achieved results in both oral and written form. The student should after the completed project work be able to search, critically evaluate and assess information and knowledge at the scientific level and have the ability to independently solve problems. The student should understand current scientific issues within the subject area of the project and have a scientific attitude to these issues. The student should be able to present his work both orally and written, in good Swedish or English. The student should be able to discuss results and conclusions, also in relation to scientific research within the pharmaceutical field. Content

An individual scientific project that is guided by a supervisor in close connection with ongoing research projects

During the degree project, the student will have the opportunity to apply knowledge that has been acquired under earlier studies. The work should highlight the close connections between the undergraduate program, research and development work.

Instruction

Teaching is given in the form of individual supervision, seminars and literature studies.

Compulsory parts of the course: Course start, written presentation of the degree project as well as oral presentation of the work through participation in a general seminar announced by the department as well as a popular compilation of the project work in the form of e g a poster or a talk in the symposium that is organised in the end of the semester.

Assessment

The degree project is presented orally and written in a report that has the form of a scientific essay, including a popular compilation. A passing grade requires passed oral presentation including opposition (1,5 hp), participation in student symposium (1,5 hp), passed written report and participation in all other compulsory parts.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
