Entry requirements
120 credits including Analysis of Regression and Variance. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- be able to give an account of important concepts in the area of clinical research;
- understand the importance of correct planning and analysis of clinical studies from ethical as well as economical perspectives;
- be able to use the most important types of clinical trial plans;
- be able to use various methods for randomizing patients for different treatments;
- know various methods for interim analysis of data during a clinical study, and important models and methods for statistical analysis of clinical data after the study;
- be able to present results of a clinical study to others.
Content
Cross-over, factorial and other trial plans. Parametric and non-parametric methods for clinical studies. Analysis of covariance, repeated measurements, dimensioning. Handling of prognostic factors.
Assessment
Assignments and laboratory work with computers.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
