Aims
The course is intended tp provide wide variety of undergraduate and graduate students to different specialities with a basic knowledge in physics, hydrodynamics and chemistry of combustion, efficiency of burning processes and pollutant emissions.
Content
INtroduction: Energy production and energy needs. Sources of energy. Combustion regimes; pollutants, efficient and clean combustion. Thermodynamics of combustion processes. The first law of thermodynamics. The second law of thermodynamics. Equilibrium. Heat capacities., enthalpies, thermodynamic functions. THermodynamics of chemical reactions. Chemical kinetics of combustion processes. Reaction mechanisms. Adiabatic flame temperature. Adiabatic explosion. Semonov's theory of explosion. Explosion examples. NOn branching reactions. Chain branching chemical reactions. THe Hydrigen- Oxygen explosion. Velocity and temperature of laminar flames. Introduction to fluid mechanics. Heat and mass transfer. Sound waves and shock waves. Hydrodynamic instabilities. Combustion regimes: flame and detonation. Premixed and diffusion combustion. Stability of a propagating flame.
