General provisions

The course is solely for exchange students and visiting students participating in bilateral university exchange programmes or in university or national scholarship schemes for students from other countries. Only in exceptional cases can students other than the categories mentioned above be admitted to the course after special consultation with the Office of Admissions and Student Records.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student should be able to:

• describe the general outlines of art and music in Sweden form the 16th century until today
• identify some of Sweden's most characteristic art and music movements, styles and individual artists

Content

Swedish Culture: Swedish Art and Music gives an overview of Swedish audiovisual culture from the early 16th century and onwards, where questions concerning national identity, ethnicity, gender and class are of great importance. The movements, styles and individual artists are of great concern; nevertheless the problematic issues regarding these contexts will be highlighted as well.

Instruction

The teaching consists of lectures and seminars. Educational study visits can also take place.

Assessment

Examination is effected by means of written assignments, oral presentations, and exercises performed individually or in group. Grades given are Pass with distinction (VG), Pass (G) and Fail (U).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
