Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- explain the principles of cartographic modelling and analysis in GIS
- process and analyse raster and vector data in GIS
- describe database structures, data quality, and standards in GIS
- describe GIS infrastructure and organisation
- explain how to formulate, construct, and present a GIS project
Content
Cartographic modelling and spatial analysis in vector and raster GIS. Data input, processing, import and export of geographical and attribute data in GIS. Data structures, databases, data quality and standard i GIS. Digital elevation models in GIS. Cartography, visualisation and publishing of spatial data from GIS. Project planning, implementation strategies and evaluation of hardware and software for GIS.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars, literature studies, a project and exercises.
Assessment
The course is assessed with a written examination (1 credit), the written presentation of a project (2 credits), and the written presentation of a literature study along with seminars and exercises (2 credits).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
