Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should be able to describe:
- The function of marketing in companies and society
- Main theories in marketing management
- Models and tools for crafting strategy and tactics
After completing the course, the student should be able to analyse:
- The business challenges in the internal and external environment
- The market, buyer behaviour and competition
- The company's marketing (a brief marketing audit)
Content
The course creates an overview and understanding of traditional marketing, its philosophy and role in society as a whole, and knowledge of models for analysis and control of the marketing function in the company. The course covers basic concepts, often illustrated by examples from established, larger companies.

The course is Internet based, built on self-study learning. Reading instructions are posted on the web site, together with additional material, such as presentations, cases and scientific articles that can be reached electronically.
Assessment
Examination consists of written assignments and exams. Course grades are Pass with Distinction ("VG"), Pass ("G") or Fail ("U")
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.
NOTE: Only completed courses can count toward a degree.
