Entry requirements

150 credits within Science/Technology, whereof 10 credits at advanced level.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • explain the technical functions and principles for different techniques used for energy efficiency in buildings and account for how the techniques interact in a building or larger energy system,
  • mathematically model and perform calculations for different technical solutions, including smart windows,
  • utilise building energy simulations to evaluate different measures for efficient energy use in buildings,
  • critically analyse the economical and environmental benefits for different combinations of energy efficiency measures based on available resources, energy requirements, and market conditions.

Content

Building envelope with a focus on windows, including smart coatings. Technical installations with an emphasis on heat pumps and HVAC-systems. Domestic hot water and electricity use. Lighting, Design of nearly zero-energy buildings. Economical and environmental evaluation, and system perspective on energy efficiency measures in the built environment.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars and a small simulation based project performed in groups.

Assessment

Written home examination, oral presentation of project work and active participation in seminars.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
