Entry requirements

Prerequisite for the course is knowledge equal to 40 credit points in Earth science (geovetenskap). The course Geoinformatics 10 credit points, and the course Glaciology and Glacial Deposits are recommended.

Aims

To bring general knowledge of the build-up and disintegration of landforms on the surface of Earth, as well as their temporal and spatial variation. An aim with the course is also to give an opportunity for training in scientific writing, and to bring general knowledge of the usually most used geomorphological techniques.

Content

The historical background and the general concept of geomorphology. Endogenic, exogenic, and planetary geomorphology. Mass- and weathering processes. Fluvial, littoral, eolian and periglacial landforms, and the acting processes. The landscape development in different climatic environments. Field- and laboratory methods. Geomorphological mapping. Excursions and field work.

Instruction

The course is given using lectures, seminars, written reports and papers, field trips and computer laboratory work. The attendance in seminars and field trips is obligatory.

Assessment

Student papers and other independent student work during the course is at least 50 % of the basis used for examination. The final examination at the end of the course covers at most 50% of the basis for the evaluation. Laborations and seminars have to be passed in order to pass the course. For students that are not pass, will extra examinations be arranged at the end of the terms.
