Entry requirements
Admission to medical studies.
For admission to term 2, all compulsory events and exams must be approved from term 1. For admission, however, three (3) compulsory events and one (1) examination can remain unapproved (a) from term 1.
The education follows a set course of studies, which implies that the courses should be taken in an established order.
The term states the affiliation to first cycle or second cycle of the course and location in the main field of study gradual specialisation for the general qualifications and nature of degree project: G1N: first cycle only has upper-secondary entry requirements G1F: first cycle has less than 60 credits course/you for first-cycle studies as entry requirements G1E: first cycle contains particularly designed degree project for Higher Education Diploma G2F: first cycle has at least 60 credits course/you for first-cycle studies as entry requirements G2E: first cycle has at least 60 credits course/you for first-cycle studies as entry requirements, contains degree project for Bachelor's degree A1N: second cycle only has course/you for first-cycle studies as entry requirements A1F: second cycle has course/you for second-cycle studies as entry requirements A1E: second cycle contains degree project for Master's degree (60 credits) A2E: second cycle contains degree project for Master's degree (120 credits) GXX: first cycle, the specialisation of the course can not be classified. Learning outcomes
The course should give basic knowledge of the endocrine system functions and how homeostasis is maintained.
After the course, the student should be able to:
* describe the organisation and structure of the endocrine systems and their relation to other organ systems
* explain the endocrine systems general regulation at normal function and at deranged homeostasis
* explain for how various types of hormones seems and the principles behind the function of hormone receptors
* describe at a general level pharmacological treatment that includes the endocrine organs
* explain the blood glucose raising and- reducing metabolic processes
* search after information in scientific databases
* identify and distinguish between the different tissues of the body and organs at the microscopical level
* present and discuss research results orally
Content
The main topics are: The organisation, structure and its relation to other organ system of the endocrine system and general regulation. The hormonal influence and receptors. Pharmacological treatment of diseases that include the endocrine organs. The blood glucose raising and - reducing metabolic processes. Advanced assignment that is presented orally. Histology lectures and histology briefings.
Instruction
The course is given in the form of lectures and compulsory groups/individuals seminars and practical exercises.
Assessment

To pass the course, the student should have participated in all seminars actively, approve the individual written histology exam and the oral presentation of his advanced assignment. Final examination takes place through individual written examination at the end of the course.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
Students who have not passed the examination have a right to make 4 additional examination attempts (i.e. 5 examination attempts in total). If special circumstances apply, the programme committee can allow additional examinations. Participation in an examination is counted as one examination. Submission of a so-called blank examination counts as an examination attempt. The student has the right to request a change of examiner after two failed examinations.
