General provisions
The course is given in Master's Programme in Entrepreneurship.
Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Proficiency in English.
In addition, to be eligible students are required to have been registered on 30 credits within the programme, of which at least 15 credits must be passed.
Learning outcomes
This course is about entrepreneurship and business development in the already established corporation. It addresses the particular challenges associated with entrepreneurship in the intra-corporate context, and prepares participants for successful initiation and development of new corporate ventures and/or a future career as business developers.
Having completed the course, participants will have deepened their understanding of the nature of corporate entrepreneurship and the specific challenges of launching new business ventures within already established organisational structures. From a practical point of view, participants will know how to:
- develop and implement new business ventures within already established corporations
- frame and present new business ventures in a way that makes them attractive to various corporate audiences
- design organisations with an apposite level of entrepreneurial activity.
Content
While based on theory, conceptual frameworks, and empirical findings from corporate entrepreneurship research, the course has a practical orientation. Particular emphasis is placed on developing the skills needed for initiating and developing new business ventures within already established corporate contexts.
The main contents and core issues include but are not necessarily limited to: The pre-conditions for corporate entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial processes within the established corporation, the framing of new corporate ventures, and designs for creating the entrepreneurial corporation.
Instruction
Teaching involves a set of lectures, exercises, and case discussions. It may also involve extracurricular activities and guest lectures on the core topics of the course. The course is taught in English.
Assessment
The student will get one single grade, equivalent to 7.5 credits.
Examination takes the form of a written assignment and the assessment of class participation. The final grade of the course is determined after taking into account the different parts of the examination.
Grading criteria are presented in the study guide that applies to the course section. The following grades will be used: pass with distinction (VG), pass (G), and fail (U). Examinations handed in late will not be assessed except under special circumstances. Any remaining supplemental work must be completed and handed in by the deadline specified in the study guide. Otherwise the entire course (all examinations included) must be retaken during subsequent course sections.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.
NOTE: Only completed courses can count toward a degree.
