Aims

Computers are being used in -- are infiltrating --

most areas in today’s society. The overall goal

with this course is to provide an understanding of

the interactions between technology, users and

designers. This includes looking at interactions

between users and how technology influences this

interaction. It also includes the interaction

between the designer and the user, as well as,

between the user and the system. An important goal

with this course is to provide a framework for,

and experience in, evaluating ethical issues in

the use, or construction, of technical products.

Content

The interaction between users and the role of

technology in this includes areas like group dynamics, communication in groups and with users.

Knowledge acquisition is an, for

this course, important aspect of system design,

as are health and ethical considerations.

Interface design is a vital component in that it

will function as a focal point to the broader and

deeper issues covered in the course. The

prototyping of an interface will be used in

requirements analysis, that is the part of

requirement analysis that is directed towards

understanding the interaction between the system

and its environment.

There will be a practical

component where a design for a group of real users,

e.g. in a company or some governmental

institution, will be conducted. This will be made

with consideration to the different components

covered in the course. The design might reach the

state of producing a prototype.
