The course is part of the minor field of study Expression in Convergent Media.
The course is an elective course of the Bachelor's programme Game Design and Graphics, 180 credits.
Expression, 3D Modelling and Texturing for Games, 7.5 credits.
This course introduces the student to digital sculpting with a focus on its application to digital games. Upon successful completion of the course, a student will be able to:
- Create high-resolution sculpts while applying both practical and theoretical knowledge of the digital sculpting process.
- Evaluate and balance topology in the context of 3D high resolution sculpts, as well as display an ability in the management thereof.
- Demonstrate a practical understanding of the texturing process in relation to a high-poly sculpting workflow.
This course is an introduction to digital sculpting methods with a direction of environments. Building upon concepts and theory of 3D-modelling such as topology, vertices and edges, the student will gain an ability to understand and apply these concepts in the context of a high resolution sculpting workflow. The course is structured around practical exercises and assignments, with a focus on implementing the theoretical part in production.
The online classroom activities are with both individual and group study. Online classroom activities are in the form of lectures, seminars and workshops.
Examination is in the form of practical assignments and oral presentations describing the connection between theory, method and design results. The course has two modules, 3.5 credits and 4 credits.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
Uppsala University does not accept cheating or plagiarism. Suspected incidents of cheating or plagiarism are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, which may issue a formal warning to the student or suspend the student from studies for a certain period.
The course completely overlaps the course 3D Modelling and Visualisation with ZBrush, 5SD501 and 5SD500, and must not be included in the degree together.
