General provisions
The course is mandatory for students attending the Master's Programme in Cultural Heritage and Sustainability.
Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Learning outcomes
The student should, after completing the course, be able to
regarding knowledge and understanding
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the most common theoretical positions and methodological choices in the field of heritage and sustainability,
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how these choices are linked to the formulation of research questions,
regarding competence and skills
- apply different theoretical and methodological approaches to a limited body of research material,
- be able to critically analyse previous research in the field of heritage and sustainability,
regarding judgement and approach
- understand and evaluate which theories and methods that are best suited to a limited research problem,
- reflect on ethical considerations related to research in the field of cultural heritage and sustainability.
Content
The aim of the course is to prepare students for the writing of a thesis by introducing them to current theoretical and methodological approaches in the field of heritage and sustainability.
Instruction
The course is taught in English.
Teaching is given in the form of seminars, lectures, group exercises and/or written assignments.
Assessment
The assessment is based on active participation in seminars and submission of written assignments. Grades are given according to the Swedish grading system: Fail (U), Pass (G).
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
