Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Also required is 90 credits in psychology with at least 7.5 credits in methods and statistics. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6. A grade of E or higher on the courses 2PS101 and 2PS103.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

- Search for a given subject within relevant literature in research databases.

- Compile a literature introduction to a given subject.

- Formulate a general research question as well as more specific questions related to that theme in scientifically researchable terms .

- Plan an empirical study with regard to design, participants, methods, and implementation that can answer the posed questions, as well as set up a plan to answer theoretical questions.

- Collect materials according to plan.

- Process and analyze materials to solve the problem statement- research questions.

- Draw conclusions about how the problem statement/research question is solved and answered, and how it is tied to relevant literature .

- Report the work in scientific terms.

- Publicly defend your research, which means being able to objectively argue its strengths and weaknesses.

Content

The student completes under supervision, but with independent responsibility, a research project in an area that directly or indirectly relates to psychology research. A written plan for the work is completed in consultation with the supervisor and examiner. The student is also offered the opportunity to participate in a teacher-led seminar at the start of the course. 

Instruction

Teaching is given in the form of supervision.

Assessment

Assessment of students' knowledge takes place through the review of completed thesis and a final seminar, where even the oral defense of work is assessed. When assessing the work, the extent of course completion (15 credits) will be taken into consideration. Obligatory attendance for a certain number of seminars and/or oppositions to other essays is also the basis for determining grades.
