Admitted to the Master's programme in Clinical Pharmacy.

Learning outcomes

After examination, the student should be able to:

- handle different methods and tools to practise clinical pharmacy

- briefly explain the structure of the healthcare and interpret the laws, rules and constitutions that govern the pharmacist within healthcare

- discuss ethical concepts and dilemmas relevant to clinical pharmacy

- formulate a searchable question, carry out searches in databases and identify relevant and scientific information about drugs.

- critically review and evaluate clinical pharmaceutical studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, assess the weighted evidence and apply this in the evaluation of a patient's therapy

- report tasks in a structured manner, orally and in writing, in good Swedish

Content

The course focuses on evidence-based medicine. It addresses working methods and tools for clinical pharmaceutical work, such as communication, meeting patients and ethics. Furthermore, information search, critical review of studies and evaluation of evidence in relation to the patient's drug treatment are discussed.

Instruction

Teaching is given as lectures, oral and written reports, workshops, discussion seminars, peer exercises and self-study. Some parts of the teaching may be online and given in English.

Compulsory parts: Oral and written presentation of patient cases, workshops and discussion seminars about evidence-based methods and the organisation of health care, preparatory lectures before clincial experience (VFU) and communication training.

Assessment

For a passing grade the student must pass the written EBM case (6 hp) and have approved results on other compulsory exercises 1 (4,5 hp), 2 (1,5 hp) and 3 (0 hp).

The possibility of supplementing unapproved compulsory parts can be prepared at the earliest at the next course session and only subject to availability. If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.

This course replaces and corresponds to the clinical introduction sub-courses. Clinical introduction, Evidence-based medicine and pharmacy and Patient-centred work and communication skills within course 3FB005 Master's programme with breadth in clinical pharmacy.
