The course is elective within the Master's Programme in Cultural Heritage and Sustainability.

Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to be able to:

• identify practical or scientific problems based on practical work and propose solutions to these in a reflective way,
• convert relevant theoretical knowledge and skills into practical use,
• analyze conservation practice with theories from the field of cultural heritage and sustainability,
• critically reflect on professional conservation practices in both national and international contexts.

Content

Internship in the cultural heritage and/or conservation sector. With the support of the supervisor, the student will continuously participate in the daily work. The job assignment must have a clear connection to cultural heritage and/or conservation and train the student in working independently but also to cooperate with others. Literature related to the field of cultural heritage and sustainability and relevant for conservation practice is selected in consultation with the course coordinator.

Instruction

Instruction is partly in the form of practical work under supervision, with time for reflection and critical thinking, and partly in the form of literature studies.

Assessment

The course is examined by the student preparing a plan for the internship in collaboration with the course coordinator and the supervisor at the workplace, attendance at the workplace and written assignments. As a grade, one of the words Pass or Fail is used.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
