General provisions

The course substitutes and corresponds to the earlier course 3FF900 or 3FF930, Degree Project in Pharmaceutical Pharmacology. The degree project can be carried out within or outside the university or as a collaborative project. The subject should be established of the examiner at the Faculty of Pharmacy after having consulted student and supervisor. Before the introduction of the course, choices of supervisors and the planning of the work should be accepted by the Faculty of Pharmacy's examiner. The student should be registered at the Faculty of Pharmacy. Substitutes earlier courses, Advanced course in pharmaceutical pharmacology, D, 20 credit points, 3FF963, and Pharmaceutical Pharmacology D, 20 credit points, 3FF966. In addition to the compulsory written and oral presentation of the degree project it should also be presented in a popular science manner through participation with a poster  and a talk in a symposium that is organised at the end of the semester.

Entry requirements

For students within the program: general rules which are stated in the programme curriculum.

For students on single subject course: 180 credits, including 90 credits in pharmaceutical bioscience or equivalent and of which pharmacology on level B and C. For students with other educations, individual trial takes place. Knowledge in Swedish and English equivalent that is required for basic eligibility to Swedish higher education on basic level.

Content

The course comprises an individual project based on a scientific problem and guided by a supervisor. The project is performed in close connection with ongoing research at the department. The student will also be educated in theory of science and research methodology. During the degree project there is an opportunity for the student to apply knowledge and skills achieved at previous courses. The degree project should elucidate the connection between the undergraduate programme, research and pharmaceutical development, as well as future pharmaceutical work and methods within the area.

Instruction

The educational instruction is carried out in the form of individual supervision, literature studies and seminars. Compulsory parts of the course: written presentation of the degree project as well as oral presentation of the work through participation in a general seminar announced by the department as well as a popular compilation of the project work in the form of a poster  and a talk in the symposium that is organised in the end of the semester.

Assessment

The degree project is presented orally before an audience and written in a report that has the form of a scientific essay, including a popular compilation in good Swedish. A passing grade requires passed oral presentation including opposing on another student's project (1,5 credits), student symposium (1,5 credits), passed written report (27 credits) and participation in all other compulsory parts.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
