Aims

The aim of the course is to introduce students to

the principles of interaction in systems of

cooperating loosely-coupled computers.

Content

The central topics for the course include

algorithms for synchronisation of processes and

consistency control in distributed systems, and

methods for interprocess communication and

distributed control in distributed operating

systems. Existing distributed operating systems,

such as Mach, Sprite, and Amoeba, are used as case

studies.

Instruction

Lectures, laboratory work, tutorials, assignments

and seminars (depending on the number of participants).

Assessment

Written examination at the end of the course. Passed laboratory course and seminars are also required.
