The course is elective in the Master's Programme in Pharmacy.

Learning outcomes

The student should show knowledge about current research and development within the project's subject area and knowledge about the implication of a scientific approach.

The student should show good knowledge about methods within the subject area of the project.

The student should after discussion with the supervisor be able to formulate an objective and independently, and within a given time frame, be able to plan and carry out the project.

The student should be able to search, critically evaluate and analyze information and integrate and compile this at a scientific level.

The student should be able to present his work both orally and written, in good Swedish or English.

The student should be able to discuss results and conclusions, also in relation to scientific research within the pharmaceutical field.

The student should show ability to identify the need of additional research within the subject area.

Content

The course is comprised of an individual scientific project that is guided by a supervisor in close connection with ongoing research projects. During the work the student will develop a deeper understanding of scientific theory and research methodology.

During the degree project, the student will have the opportunity to apply knowledge that has been acquired in earlier studies. The work should highlight the relationships that prevail between first-cycle programmes, research and development work and connect to future professional work and to methods that are used in the subject area.

Instruction

Teaching is performed by individual supervision and through literature studies and seminars.

Compulsory parts of the course: written presentation of the degree project as well as oral presentation of the work through participation in a general seminar announced by the department as well as a popular compilation of the project work in the form of a poster  and a talk in the symposium that is organized in the end of the semester.

Assessment

The degree project is presented orally and written in a report that has the form of a scientific essay, including a popular compilation in good Swedish. A passing grade requires passed oral presentation including opposing on another student's project (1,5 credits), student symposium (1,5 credits), passed written report (27 hp) and participation in all other compulsory parts.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
