General provisions

The course Education and Digitalisation provides knowledge about the interplay between education and digitalisation in Swedish and international contexts. The course covers central concepts, theories, and research outcomes regarding the function of digitalisation in various parts of the education system. The course also addresses the significance of social differences (such as class, gender, age, and geography) within digitalised education.

Entry requirements

One year of studies or 60 credits from a discipline pertaining to the social sciences or the humanities.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course the students are expected to be able to

• describe how digitalisation is manifested in schools and higher education in Swedish and international contexts.
• account for the significance of social differences (such as class, gender, age, and geography) within digitalised education.
• discuss theories, central concepts, and research results concerning digitalisation and education.
• formulate questions about education and digitalisation, orally and in writing, that are relevant in Sociology of Education.

Instruction

The course consists of a series of digital and on site lectures and seminars. The language of instruction is English. All seminars are mandatory and require active participation.

Assessment

The assessment is based on oral and written assignments. Grading system: Fail (U), Pass (G) Pass with distinction (VG).
