Entry requirements

Polymers NV1, 5 credit points. Organic chemistry NV1, 10 credit points is recommended.

Aims

After completed course the student will be able to

- Describe macromolecular properties and interactions in solution, bulk or at interfaces.

- Explain how macromolecular properties are connected to chemical structure.

- Identify and outline methods for the characterisation of macromolecular properties.

- Describe synthetic routes to macromolecules with designed properties.

- Describe methods for the modification and characterisation of polymeric surfaces.

- Explain mechanisms for responsive materials and give examples of their applications.

- Define and categorise macromolecules into subgroups such as, biopolymers electronically active polymers, amphiphiles, dendrimers, and gels. Give examples of application representing different subgroups.

Laboratory project:

Laboratory work is performed as a project where the student will train skill such as,

- Search, analyse and summarise scientific information.

- Define in written form a plan for the realisation of a project.

- Perform and evaluate a project.

- Present the results orally and in writing.

Instruction

Lectures and laboratory work.

Assessment

A written exam that equals 3 points must be passed. Further, the student has to plan, perform and present the results from a given laboratory project. The laboratory project equals 2 point and must be passed to complete the course.
