Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
Knowledge and Understanding
- Describe and explain physiotherapy as a profession and a science, as well as the relationship between them.
- Provide an overview of different professions' areas of competence and responsibility, including basic hygiene training in healthcare, and understand the meaning of interprofessional competence.
- Describe fundamental principles for testing submaximal oxygen uptake capacity.
- Account for concepts in scientific theory and research methodology and conduct searches for scientific articles.
- Describe methods for conversation and interviews.
Skills and Abilities
- Practically perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Practically apply learning theories in health-related behavior change.
- Observe and describe human movements.
Judgment and Approach
- Analyze theory, concepts, and empirical data within the areas of health, ethics, and learning, considering diversity and equal treatment.
- Reflect on personal values and attitudes regarding health, ethics, and learning, and identify the need for further knowledge.
Content
The course covers fundamental theories of physiotherapy as a subject and profession, as well as health, ethics, and learning. It also includes basic conversation and interview methodology, philosophy of science, behavioral medicine, and movement analysis.
- Theories of health, ethics and learning.
- Training in conversation and interview methodology.
- Science theory and designs, processes and key concepts in research.
- Critical review of scientific articles.
- Training in observing and describing movements with specific terminology.
- Introduction to behavioral change and behavioral medicine.
- Training in identifying, self-monitoring and analysing own health behavior.
- Cardiovascular rescue and basic hygiene regulations.
- Library skills.
- Training in aerobic capacity testing.
Instruction
The course is given in the form of lectures, practical exercises, seminars, field studies and group assignments.
Assessment
Examination is conducted through written reports and participation in mandatory seminars and activities.
Passing the course requires
To pass the course, passed written examinations and a passed written report are required, as well as passed participation in mandatory seminars.
Exceptions for examination formats
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the University's disability coordinator.
